Rema, Tyla, Sauti Sol, Sherine Performed Best Across all Streaming & Social Platforms in 2023

The report aggregates data from 16 different streaming and social media platforms including Spotify, Youtube, Apple Music, Deezer, Soundcloud, Instagram, Facebook, Wikipedia, Twitter, Pandora etc.

Chartmetric released its Year in Music 2023 report, revealing that 17,187,199 tracks were added to their system, with 7,688,384 released that year alone. This amount of music would take 117 years to listen to, with 42 years dedicated solely to music from 2023. Bet?? 😅

If you’re not as familiar, Chartmetric is thee all-in-one platform that provides comprehensive streaming, social, and audience data for artists and music industry professionals. I’ve been an avid user for five years and counting now.

There are a truckload of insights from the report but I’ll just trim it down to the most relevant to The Jollof Diary.

One key aspect of the report is the Top 10 Artists section, which aggregates data from 16 different streaming and social media platforms including Spotify, Youtube, Apple Music, Deezer, Soundcloud, Instagram, Facebook, Wikipedia, Twitter, Pandora, Amazon Music, TikTok and Twitch. This combination of Fanbase and Engagement scores gives insight into an artist's long-term growth and short-term virality, culminating to what is now popularly known as Chartmetric Artist Score.

Fanbase Score:

Fanbase metrics relate to how successful an artist is at building their fanbase. These types of metrics are cumulative with a longer time horizon, and include subscribers, followers, and playlists across the major streaming and social platforms.

Engagement Score:

Engagement metrics capture how well an artist interacts with her fanbase. Consistent song releases, social media posts, and events will drive up engagement metrics like listens, views, and comments. Due to the nature of engagement, these metrics focus on recency, usually on a monthly or weekly basis.

Engagement + Fanbase Metrics = Artist Score, which combines these metrics to offer a simple overview of an artist's performance.
